CeBIT Day Three Brings Spotlight on Digitization of Manufacturing Sector

CeBIT India, world’s largest business IT and ICT event, organized by Hannover Milano Fairs India Pvt Ltd (HMFI), concluded its third day at the Bangalore International Exhibition Center. Discussions for the day centered on the digitization of the manufacturing sector and the development of the SME sector in the country. A special series of discussions were initiated on how CXOs can embrace and lead digital transformation.

cebit-2015The day’s keynote and panel discussion on Industry 4.0 – Manufacturing Goes Digital with panellists Sujoy Bhramachari, Senior GM, Hero MotoCorp, Pertish Mankotia, Head IT, Sheela Foam Pvt. Ltd. (Sleepwell), Prakash Dhamani, Global CIO, Essel Propack Limited, Kashyap Kompella, Research Director, Real Story Group and Dr. Nilay Yajnik, Profesor of Information Systems, NMIMS University.

Discussions centered around the impact of Industry 4.0 and how it can be best implemented in India. The panellists shared interesting use cases on the automation of the manufacturing sector. Sujoy Bhramachari, Senior GM, Hero MotoCorp, said “Automation is going to play an important role. When we take our own example. We create one cycle every 18 s. If you are not automated you are left behind.” The panellists felt that India needs to create their own approach to Industry 4.0 in order to work in the Indian context.

A separate panel discussion was organisated on the need for Industry-Academia collaboration for SMEs to support innovation and provide new opportunties. A greater level of collaboration can ensure that these organisations stay competetive.

CXOs and their Role in Digital Transformation

A special panel discussion on Digital Transformation and The CXO Event was organised to understand the role CXOs need to play in order to ensure the digital transformation of organisations. Jessie Paul, Paul Writer Advisory said: “Each company has its own strategy when it comes to digital. There is no particular strategy for success in digital transformation. It also depends on the time when the strategy is implemented. The only companies that lose out are the ones that do not think about who the key people are that they want to reach out to and to what extent.”

CIOs are leading the digital transformation and a panel discussion on the topic brought to fore key areas that CIOs need to focus upon in order to stay relevant in a digital world. Asserted Suresh A Shan, Head – Innovation & Future Technologies MMSL BITS (Business Information Technology Solutions, Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services), “Digital transformation simply means business through analytics. CIOs must leverage the power that data analytics hold, and its relevance for effective business operations.”
