Narayana Murthy says lockdown will kill more people than Covid

The founder of the country’s largest software company Infosys, Narayana Murthy said that if India continues the lockdown to stop the spread of Covid-19, more deaths can happen due to hunger than the deaths from the virus.

Narayan Murthy said that the country should accept coronavirus as the new normal and should facilitate the return-to-work of able people, taking care of the security of the most vulnerable. He said that it is important for us to understand that India cannot remain in this condition for very long. He expressed apprehension that the deaths due to hunger due to lockdown will increase very much at one time. He said that India has a mortality rate of 0.25–0.5 percent of the total cases of Covid-19 in India compared to developed countries. He said that till now India has done a very good job in preventing the spread of corona virus by implementing lockdown.

He said, as per the recent statistics more than 33000 people have been found corona virus positive in India, out of which 1,050 people have died due to infection. Let us know that the first case of corona in the country was revealed on 30 January. Murthy said that more than 90 lakh deaths occur every year in India due to various reasons, of which one third is due to pollution. He said that India is the most polluted in the world. He said that when you see 90 lakh people dying in this way and when you compare with the death of 1,000 people in the last two months, then obviously it is not as nervous as we are thinking.
