The legacy of ASUS innovation begins
Founded in Taipei in 1989, ASUS initially offered consultancy services to motherboard manufacturers. However, the founders wanted to put ASUS on the electronics industry map. That’s what drove them to create a motherboard prototype for the Intel 486 processor. But there was a big obstacle in their way: since Taiwan’s computing industry was still underdeveloped at that time, ASUS had to build the motherboard without access to the actual processor.
When ASUS approached Intel to request a processor for testing, it turned out that ASUS’ motherboard worked perfectly with the Intel 486 CPU. Even better, the ASUS engineers were able to further demonstrate their technical prowess when they were able to swiftly solve a problem Intel was having with its own motherboard. The Intel engineers were suitably impressed. As a result of this fortuitous meeting, ASUS receives Intel engineering samples ahead of our competitors.

ASUS Innovation Development Office
In 2018, to further push the boundaries of innovation, ASUS established the Innovation Development Office (IDO). The IDO focuses on three core areas: strategic innovation initiatives, industry and academic cooperation, and strategic investments.
A key internal innovation initiative is the ASUS Star Acceleration Program (ASAP), a platform that encourages employees to think beyond current product lines and bring their ideas to commercial reality. The proposals received are used as the seeds of innovation, which are then nurtured and cultivated by the ASAP platform with extensive resources and support. Since 2021, the program has acted on 19 proposals on a wide range of topics including smart healthcare, AI and edge computing applications, gaming, lifestyle, and more.
The IDO is also deeply engaged in external collaboration initiatives to empower strategic and entrepreneurial innovation at ASUS. From the ASUS-NTU Joint Research Center to a corporate accelerator program within NTU’s Taidah Entrepreneurship Center (TEC), ASUS is continuously leveraging industry-academic cooperation to develop R&D talent and ecosystem partners. We also hold forums and workshops to tackle big challenges like advanced manufacturing and sustainable development, creating value for ASUS in a virtuous cycle of innovation and growth.
ASUS is also innovating via strategic collaborations that explore trends and market opportunities that are true to our user-centric mission. We identify and collaborate in innovative ways with various brands, musicians, fashion designers, and esports organizations to strengthen our community and reach new markets.
Global recognition for ASUS innovative solutions
Our strategic approach to design innovation has been clearly validated with global recognition from esteemed awards organizations. Highlights from this year include our Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED and carbon-neutral ExpertBook B9 OLED winning the Best Choice Golden Award and Sustainable Tech Special Award, respectively, at Computex 2023. Additionally, in 2023, ASUS won 44 Red Dot Design Awards, 26 iF Design Awards, and 27 Good Design Awards across multiple categories.
