Intel has opened its design & engineering centre in Hyderabad, which will design next generation computing and communications technology. The company’s expansion in Hyderabad is expected to further strengthen collaborations with the government, industry and academia towards accelerating innovation and entrepreneurship in the State.
The facility was formally inaugurated by Telangana IT Minister K T Rama Rao is spread over 3 lakh sq ft comprising of six LEED Platinum floors with a 1,500 seat capacity. The facility also hosts an incubation centre for hardware and software startups as well as Intel India Maker Lab. Intel wants to generate unicorns through these facilities.
Intel’s new design and engineering centre will make contributions to critical global products and technologies across next generation system on chip (SOCs), graphics, hardware platforms and software. The centre which currently houses around 380 personnel is expected to employ about 1,500 professionals by end of 2020.
The facility will also contribute to computing and communications technology innovations engaged towards addressing critical challenges and advance the company’s engagement with Hyderabad’s IT ecosystem by encouraging entrepreneurship and research. It also aims to work on Exascale Computing that will help handle large size of data and analyse data for wide applications.
Jayesh Ranjan, principal secretary, IT, Telangana, said, “Intel will bring value to the ecosystem that we are building in Hyderabad. There had been fruitful partnerships with the company in the past. Intel earlier collaborated with IIIT-Hyderabad to work on artificial intelligence in the areas such as transportation. Intel could explore setting up a full-fledged centre of excellence at IIIT for AI focused on mobility. Telangana government plans to set up a blockchain training centre for capacity building with the help of Intel. The State is also developing capabilities in the very-large-scale integration (VLSI) space with industry support. We are seeing growth across areas.”
