Delegation from Odisha State Skill Development Authority on a two day visit to AP

Photo 1In the wake of Andhra Pradesh being ranked the number 1 state with highest employability, several states are evincing interest to study Andhra Pradesh’s skill development model and learn lessons from it, In this regard, a delegation from Gujarat has recently visited AP. The delegation from Odisha State Skill Development Authority is now on a two-day visit to AP to understand the Skill Development initiatives of Andhra Pradesh. Rajesh Patil, IAS, Director of Employment cum CEO, Odisha Skill Development Authority and H. N. Shashidhara, GM (Training), OSDA were part of this delegation.

Photo 3The delegation met Dr. Kritika Shukla, IAS, MD & CEO, APSSDC, she explained the various initiatives of APSSDC. The delegation from Odisha visited the Google Code Lab and Siemens Centre of Excellence- VVIT, Dassault Systems 3D Experience Mother Hub at Acharya Nagarjuna University, MESH International Certification Program Centre. The delegation from Odisha State Skill Development Authority appreciated the various initiatives and programs of APSSDC to impart skill development training to students and unemployed youth of AP. The delegation specifically appreciated the initiative to impart industry-oriented skill development training to engineering, degree and diploma students and for students of Social Welfare and Tribal Welfare schools.

Earlier, Dr. Kritika Shukla has made a power point presentation explaining in detail the various activities of APSSDC.  

Training in Academic Stream:

  • 42 unique beneficiaries covered in Academic Stream includes – 1.95 lakh students in Social Welfare, Tribal Welfare schools and model schools; 1.99 lakh students in Engineering Colleges and 3.48 lakh students in Degree Colleges and other colleges.
  • At present, APSSDC is imparting training in IT/ Certification courses in 391 Degree Colleges, 274 Engineering Colleges and English/ Soft Skills and IT/Computational thinking in 188 Social Welfare Residential Schools & 237 Tribal Welfare Residential Schools.
  • 48,428 number of final year Engineering/Degree College students have been placed so far.
  • It is planned to scale up these programs in the coming days with focus on certification courses for improving employability skills in Information Technology offered by Global Companies such as Google, Amazon, Udacity, Course Era, Dassault, HP, etc. It is targeted to impart these courses to 50,000 students in the Engineering Colleges by 2019.
  • Further, certification courses in finance/accounting are being offered directly through major companies such as ZOHO, Coursera, Tally, Insta EMI, NSE etc. for Degree college students to make them job ready. It is planned to offer these courses to 50,000 students in Degree colleges by 2019.
  • Under the University Innovation Fellow Programs offered by Stanford University, 186 students from Andhra Pradesh have been selected out of 679 selected across 30 countries.

Simens center visitSIEMENS project

  • A prestigious project i.e. SIEMENS training centres with capacity of 1 lakh has been launched
  • by setting up 6 Centre of Excellence (CoE) and 34 Technical Skill Development Institute (t-SDI) in 40 identified engineering and polytechnic colleges across the State.
  • So far 72,387 students availed training. These centres deploy State-of-the-art machines to impart industry relevant skills to the students.

Visited Dassault mother hub 3D Expreience centerDassault Systems

  • APSSDC in collaboration with Dassault Systems is setting up virtual learning center ‘3D-Experience Center’ on Hub and Spoke model in ANU, JNTU Anantapuram, Andhra University, SV University and 53 Engineering Colleges in AP to train students in Design,Manufacturing and Analysis in the domains of Aerospace, Automotive and Ship-Building domains.
  • Target is to train 1 lakh students in various certification courses of Data Sciences in 3 years starting from academic year 2018-19.

Industry Connect

  • APSSDC is working closely with the various industries such as KIA Motors, Ashok Leyland, Asian paints, Jain Irrigation Systems, VEM Technologies; Apollo Tyres etc. understand their manpower requirements and assist them by providing with the training and recruitment avenues through the Corporation.
  • Trainings are underway in collaboration with Industries like Raxa Security in Security Sector,CARE Institute in Health Care Sector, BMR Group in Food processing sector, Indian Telephone Industry in Telecom sector, UN Women in Domestic workers, OMNI Present Robot Tech in Drone Sector etc.,
  • Training has been commenced in collaboration with SingaporeSG Ventures from Singapore in six courses with International standards which further provides Workforce International Skills Certification from Singapore.
  • In collaboration with International partners from Singapore, Germany, UK, Switzerland, Australia, Dubai etc., training is being imparted in various key sector on par with International Standards.
  • APSSDC set up sector specific skill development center in coordination with Johnson Controls – Hitachi at ITI Vijayawada, and is in process to set up another center in coordination with Club Mahindra Holidays, TVS & Sons and TVS Motors.

Infrastructure:

  • APSSDC has partnered with 316 training partners and established 575 training centres so far to implement various Unemployed youth specific training programs.
  • Quality audit of training partners and training centres is being conducted through the Ministry body NIRD & PR which is instigating the transparency and effectiveness of training programs.
  • A world-class Skills University covering more than 25 trades has been proposed at Visakhapatnam. Process approval is underway.
  • Model Career Centres are being established 1 per each district and space has been identified in 5 Districts (Nellore, Srikakulam, Anantapur, Prakasam & East Godavari) as of now.

Target for 2018-19:

  • APSSDC aims to train 8 lakh candidates in FY 2018-19, out of which it is targeted to cover 6.14
  • lakh students and 1.86 unemployed youth through training and job fairs etc.
  • APSSDC started training to 1 lakh Graduates/ Diploma holders those who are registered under Unemployed Allowance Scheme (Mukhyamantri Yuvanestham-MYN)

The delegation from Odisha expressed their desire to initiate innovative skill programs like these in Odisha too.
