We recently had a chance to look at an Infrastructure Management Software from DMX Technologies with the brand name of EVEREST. Though, in the beginning, we had no major expectation about the features of the software, when it was demonstrated, it was pleasantly surprising to feel the intricacies built into it.

When other major software’s licensing policy is based on number of sensors, this one is based on Number of IPs. This means you can have any number of sensors per IP thereby reducing the initial investment — a major reason for “C” levels to look at this software and probably a great marketing strategy as well.
The software is more useful from the perspective of monitoring an IT Infrastructure and improving the efficiency of overall IT Service Delivery. The features viz. loading variety of scripts and triggering each of them based on different threshold violations, the escalation of an incident / alert within the Delivery teams based on time and response are a few well thought out development – A truly proactive way to identify and resolve IT incidents indeed.
From an IT administrator perspective the ability to store & baseline your device configurations and notifying deviations, if any would be very useful. This could be even used for effectively implementing change Management and configuration management though they may require some manual intervention. Also the categorization of the devices in various buckets and displaying them like a windows explorer folder structure adds to the convenience angle.
For the Senior Management the Dashboards with different color coding and segmented views with options to drill down to the root provides enough information at the click of a mouse – enabling a sound decision making process. The support is available from different time zones boosting our confidence. The product’s roadmap, being from the stable of DMX Technologies, is very promising as well.
Though the areas in respect of auto-discovery of various asset types in a network and also the remote troubleshooting part require some improvement, overall this is a good value for money for the CIOs who want to invest in an infrastructure management tool with lower TCO.
