This pandemic had brought new normal in the Indian broadband sector. While many employed professionals are back home, the usage of the internet had increased predominantly in emerging towns and small villages. Rainbow communications is one of the leading Internet Service Provider with a mission to connect more people and businesses with seamless internet connection using the “Fiber To The Home” (FTTH) broadband technology.

Understanding the need for a fast and reliable internet connection in today’s world, Rainbow Communications decided to provide flexible internet plans to the people of Komarapalaym, Erode, Mettur, and Salem district. It’s been 10 years now and we now take the pride of connecting a lot of homes and businesses by providing a wide range of internet and network services that cater to the need of every user.

Speaking to Cell IT, Prabhu S, who heads Technology in the organization says, “With the pandemic, the need for internet and the level of dependency on broadband had also increased. Thus, many professionals are working from home. With the increase in broadband usage, more users are accessing high-speed internet.” According to him, the maximum usage is from the entertainment aspect. “Since the OTT had liberalized their pricing, we are getting more requests for high-speed internet with better bandwidth. Also, today, comfortable access to entertainment had also made viewers access TV channels anywhere anytime. Thus, even at a remote village, the pandemic had taken highspeed internet to deeper level”, he said.

Prabhu also adds the dependency of technology in the education sector had increased and many students had continued their education through their mobile devices. The rural broadband penetration is remarkable during this pandemic which had already seen a spike due to the entertainment mobile applications.

Breaking the boundaries:

Today many cable operators are becoming broadband providers. Speaking on the geographical limitations of many cable operators, Prabhu says, “Being a cable-operator will have limitations as the geographical existence will be only for a few kilometers and houses. However, becoming an internet service provider will give us better accessibility and reach as the market opens up with better connectivity.” He also adds that the connectivity in which BSNL telephone lines are now enhanced for high-speed, last-mile connectivity. However, he also shares the shrinking margins of internet service providers.
