“As modern society proceeds into an era where disruptive technologies are rapidly transforming the way we live, the underbelly of this transformation also shows some serious concerns, with a prime concern being the threat to privacy. Hence, it became paramount for us to address these growing privacy and security concerns. Increasing data breaches for the purpose of monetization of stolen private data, makes it inevitable for governments and regulators to prioritise security and direct enterprises accordingly to create a robust IT ecosystem that ensures data protection. We believe that the Personal Data Protection Bill is a firm step in the right direction and will lay the groundwork to secure the vast amount of data that is being generated pertaining to 1.3 billion Indian citizens every minute. The introduction of this bill will clearly heighten the awareness amongst citizens and businesses alike, about the urgency and seriousness of data privacy in the Digital Age.
