IBM partners with India’s leading institutes to further education & research in Quantum

By Sandip Patel, Managing Director, IBM India Private Limited

Quantum computing is nearing a phase of commercialization that is likely to change our world. By giving us a chance to simulate nature, quantum computers are all set to drive a paradigm shift and help address complex problems more efficiently – be it climate change, new drug discovery, weather modeling, or even financial risk modeling.

Quantum is real and will have practical use within the next decade. This calls for creation of a quantum-ready workforce from multi-disciplinary background, equipped with both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience of access to real quantum systems. At IBM we are deeply invested in creating a future-ready talent pool to help our clients and community harness the power of exponential technologies like #HybridCloud, #AI, #Blockchain and #Quantum.

I’m excited to announce our collaboration with India’s premier academic and research institutions : IISER – Pune, Thiruvananthapuram; IISc Bangalore; IIT – Jodhpur, Kharagpur, Madras, Kanpur; ISI Kolkata; IIIT Delhi; TIFR Mumbai and the University of Calcutta, furthering quantum computing education and research. As a pioneer and a leader in the space, IBM realizes that the success of quantum computing both in the laboratory and the enterprise lies in our ability to expand educational opportunities to the youth. The collaboration will help us scale its usage so that we can develop real-world applications for business and solve the world’s most challenging issues.

Through this collaboration, the faculty and students will be able to access #IBMQuantum systems, quantum learning resources and, quantum tools over #IBMCloud for education and research purposes. It will also enable seamless connect amongst the teachers in the space, while providing the learning resources, tools and systems access they need to provide students with quality educational experiences. Click here to gather more details about the announcement.

This announcement furthers the initiatives we announced last year  to build and enhance the Quantum ecosystem in India by hosting skill-building programs like Qiskit Challenge India which is open to all, and Qiskit India Professor Meetup in addition to other enablement and awareness drives.
