Apprenticeship has been adopted as a major skill development intervention to provide wider employment opportunities to the youth. This has been a successful model, practiced widely in developed countries like Germany, Switzerland, UK, Sweden, Australia etc. Everything from law to web development can be accessed through apprenticeship.
Recognizing the value of apprenticeship, the Government of Andhra Pradesh has decided to give a big push in an industry friendly manner. Presently, apprenticeship training is mainly associated with students from ITIs, and these in turn are associated primarily with manufacturing industry. Although apprenticeship is open to all sectors, it has not been utilized. With a view to foster apprenticeship in the state, APSSDC is integrating short term courses with apprenticeship and is actively engaging with the industry in promoting them.
In this regard, in a first-of-its-kind initiative in the country, APSSDC is organizing a One-Day conference on “Implementation of Apprenticeship Scheme in AP” at Vishakhapatnam on 11th July 2018. Around 300 representatives from large corporate, SMEs, PSUs and top government officials from Government of India, Government of Andhra Pradesh are expected to participate. Honourable Minister for Skill Development, Youth, Sports, Unemployment benefits, Law & Justice, Government of AP – Shri KolluRavindra is the Chief Guest for the event.
The conference is expected to set the pace for promoting apprenticeships and enhancing the job opportunities for the unemployed youth in the state. Post the conference, Rs. 1500/- from GoI to the industries in order to encourage implementation of apprenticeship scheme.
